So the other night on our way home we were talking about God's gorgeous creation as we viewed the setting sun and the shining moon and stars and the changing leaves. So I just started to ask Shadd who created the sun and the moon, etc. He answered each time with, "God". Then we got started on the creations of the heavens. And he started to ask some fun questions like...What is heaven like? Who will be there?
So I got to share the gospel with him again. I got to paint the amazing picture of Jesus coming in the clouds to get us and take us up to heaven with Him. Of course, he wondered if Jesus would use an elevator (which I thought was rather creative).
Once again I had just another teachable moment amongst many. And isn't that how it works for us as parents to teach our children. We just have small moments where we get to share Jesus and demonstrate God's love to them and that is exactly what we are called to do.
In Deutronomy chapter 11 it states...
18 “So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 19 Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. 20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors.
So that is exactly what I (as well as you) are called to do in teaching our children God's word and its truths. My mom always told me that there's no magical formula to get your kids to love the Lord - you just have to use everything they say and point them back to the Lord and what His word says. It is so true. Its amazing the conversations you'll have and Shadd's only 3 so I can only imagine where our conversations in the future will take us.
Oh the power of God's word. Never ceases to amaze me. Useful for everything!
